ACCESSIBILITY HELP
GENERAL
To help ensure accessibility best practices, we use SiteImprove to help identify and resolve potential issues with our website. Should you find any issues, please let us know so that we may correct them.
CAPTIONING FOR LIVE EVENTS
We primarily use ZOOM or HOPIN.TO for our live events, and neither one currently supports real time captioning but we try to add captions to recordings of these meetings and events.
As a workaround, we recommend seeking out a personal live captioning solution. We cannot officially recommend/endorse any particular product, but UCI uses OTTER.AI for ZOOM recordings and there is a free, personal version OTTER.AI available, too.
REPORT AN ACCESSIBILITY ISSUE
If you would like to report an accessibility issue, please send email to the following address with details of the issue and how you may have already tried to resolve it...
We will try to resolve the issue for future events and/or share this information with campus partners and/or the company making the product.
If you would like to file a formal complaint, please see the OEOD Discrimination Complaints Procedures.
WELCOME WEEK 2020 EVENT ACCESSIBILITY
PRE-REGISTRANTS
If you are pre-registered for the event and use adaptive technology, we can try to schedule a preliminary test run for you so we can explore the accessiblity successes and failures of the hopin.to event website with you prior to our event start time. If there are any issues, we can try to troubleshoot them with you or seek alternatives or workarounds.
Clients of the UCI Disability Services Center can get help with adaptive technology directly from DSC.
ACCESSIBILITY ISSUES DURING PROGRAM
If you did not pre-register for the event and are experiencing accessibility issues, please see the tips below. Also see below if you would like to request assistance from our technical support team or would like to complete an accessiblity issue report.
REAL TIME CAPTIONING
For captioning, we suggest using a personal solution such as OTTER.AI since we were unable to implement real time captioning in our event venue. However, we intend to record all main event portions of the program so captions will also be included when we publish the video(s) on our website.
CHOPPY AUDIO OR VIDEO
Most poor audio/video issues are related to network bandwidth or low memory issues. Try quitting unused applications and make sure other devices on your network are not consuming network resources.
HELP
Our technical support team may be able to provide general technical assistance via Zoom screenshare, Teams chat, email, or telephone. Specific help with adaptive technologies is not available during these session, but the UCI Disability Services Center may be able to provide help on a case-by-case appointment basis. If we cannot help, we may report the issue on your behalf.
